Dal Nonno

The Story of

DAL NONNO

From Sicily to Australia, our history of cooking has stayed fresh and vibrant. We love to share our memories of Nonno and Sicily through our incredible traditional sauces and preserves. Try it for yourself and have a taste of our  Italy.

OUR ORIGINS

Back in Italy Tomato Day was an entire season! Nonno Michele and the family would make salsa and pasta sauces from the handpicked herbs and countless tomatoes he and nonna had growing in the garden. Down the back of the property, he had a woodfired kitchen where he would cook Sunday lunch for the family. The wood fire would give everything the most amazing smokey taste and smell which we love having in the sauces jarred today.

THE
SICILIAN WAY

Jarring pasta sauce has always been a tradition for us. The Sicilian men would save all of the beer bottles throughout the year and reuse them to bottle their sauces. Nonno was no exception, he would save all of his to bottle the passata and us kids would have the task of adding a sprig of basil to each bottle, using the end of the wooden spoon to push it down. When it was time to eat Nonno would head back out to his woodfired stove and cook the sauce again adding onion and a few other yummy ingredients.
